# How to define the campaign audience

> Lists, segments, exclusions and how Cliqo removes duplicates and suppressed contacts before sending.

## What you will learn

How to build the audience by adding lists and segments, exclude those who shouldn't receive, and understand the final recipient count.

## How the selector works

On the **Audience** tab, the selector groups the options the way you think about them:

* **Lists** — the ones you built manually or by import.
* **Engagement** — ready-made segments by email behavior (AMP engaged, recently opened, inactive, converted…).
* **RFM** — the nine segments by value and recency (Champions, Loyal, At risk…).
* **Browsing** — behavior on your store via the pixel (cart without purchase, abandoned checkout…).
* **My segments** — the ones you created.

Each option shows its contact count; the badge at the top says when the counts were calculated (e.g. "updated 2h ago") and the **Refresh** button recalculates on the spot. Above the groups, **Most used** gives shortcuts to what you use most in campaigns, and search accepts a name or #id.

## The final math

**The audience is the union of everything you selected, with no duplicates** — someone in three segments counts once. The total of unique recipients sits at the top of the step, next to **Next: Delivery**, and again on **Review**. When the sum of the sources is higher than the total, the screen says how many didn't make it (repeated across sources, unsubscribed, inactive, or a stale count).

On top of that, you can **exclude entire segments** from the audience (**+ exclude segment**, on the "Exclude from audience" line) — for example, send to the recently-opened segment while excluding the one with contacts who converted. Lists can't be excluded.

## Who drops out on their own, without you doing anything

At send time, Cliqo automatically removes: unsubscribes, complaints and hard bounces (the [suppressions](https://docs.cliqo.io/en/gestao-de-dados/supressoes.md)), anyone on the blocklist, anyone who got a message from a flow in the last 24 hours, and anyone who already received this same send (on a resume). Contacts without marketing consent are also removed once the account requires consent — for example, after an import declared as having no opt-in. The campaign report lists **how many were removed and for which reason**, under **Excluded from send** — transparency about the difference between "selected" and "received".

## Tips

* Audience too small? Check whether the segment has a short window (e.g. "opened in the last 7 days") and look at the per-source count in the summary.
* For recurring campaigns to the same audience, create a named segment instead of rebuilding the sum of lists for every send.
