The four categories
In Audience › Contacts › Suppressions:- Unsubscribes — people who clicked to leave (through the email link or Gmail/Yahoo one-click unsubscribe). They enter on their own, immediately.
- Complaints — people who marked your email as spam. They enter automatically via provider feedback. This is the most expensive signal: above 0.1% of sends, your reputation suffers.
- Hard bounces — addresses that don’t exist. After the permanent rejection, the contact is suppressed so it doesn’t generate new bounces.
- Blocklist — people you add: individual emails (Add to blocklist, with an optional reason) or in bulk (Bulk import). Both buttons live on the Blocklist tab and require the Admin or Owner role.
Import your previous ESP’s suppression list
If you migrated from another tool, this is a mandatory step before your first send: export the suppression list there (bounces, complaints, unsubscribes) and import it here under Bulk import, on the Blocklist tab — paste the addresses or upload a CSV/TXT, and pick the Reason for emails (Hard bounce, Complaint, Unsubscribe or Manual) so each batch lands in the right category. Without it, your first dispatch “rediscovers” one by one all the dead addresses your previous tool already knew about — a spike of bounces that providers read as a bad sender. The old tool paid for that learning; bring it with you. Entire invalid domains live on a platform-wide list maintained by Cliqo — if you paste a domain into Bulk import, the screen tells you it requires platform access. That protection is shared: the base of invalid domains protecting your account improves with every customer on the platform. What suppression is not
- It is not a campaign exclusion list — to keep an audience out of one specific send, use “Exclude from audience” in the campaign.
- It does not make your data disappear — a suppressed contact stays in your base, with its history; it just doesn’t receive anything.
